like denmark, iceland has a concrete association that annually hosts the icelandic concrete day.
in
the years of 2009, 2010 and in 2013, there has been awarded a concrete
prize. the winner of all three concrete prizes has used cement from
aalborg.
the icelandic concrete day 2013 was held on 15 february
and the award went to the developers of nyja bio, located at
austurstræti in reykjavik. nyja bio has strong ties to the original
house that was built in 1919. the house was used for gatherings with
room for approx. 500 people - the largest at the time.
the
original house and nearby houses caught fire in 1998 and was
subsequently demolished. hereafter, it was decided to rebuild these
houses so they appear in accordance to the original.
nyja bio is
known for its so-called art nouveau with a size of approx. 200 m² and is
part of the reconstruction, which will be a total of 9000 m².
